HELLO HELLO! Oh my god, I can't believe how long it's been. I've missed blogging so much but I've been incredibly busy with Teachers College for the past month and had no time to breathe let alone blog. But all crazyness aside, I'm happy to say that I'm back with a beautiful look for you guys that I'm really very proud of.
As of about three weeks ago I re-discovered the song "Pretty Girl Rock" by Keri Hilson and I went on an absolute BINGE. Like, I went nuts and could NOT turn it off. Anyways, I was really inspired by the video for the song where Keri embodies beauties from across the eras. My favorite look was her Donna Summer Disco Look. I totally identify with the over-the-top glitz of day-glo disco wear and anything that glitters is good with me. So after a month long hiatus I wouldn't dare keep you waiting any longer, here's the look!
SWOON! Look at those lashes. They are probably my favorite part. The doe-eyed lashes borrow inspiration from 60's icons like Twiggy, but the shimmer and shine of the lid updates it to the Dawn of Disco. Anyways, I used a combination of matte, metallic and glitter shadows to produce this ultra-glam effect and I think it's SO pretty. This pewtery-bronze glitter compliments blue eyes beautifully but would look SO rich against brown eyes as well.
Since I was recreating Keri's look I went with a fuchsia lip and obnoxiously pink blush but I think this would be divine with a red lip and some gold based highlighter on the cheeks for a beautiful Holiday Party look. Would anyone like to see a tutorial for that?

Thanks so much Sonja! It's a combination of patience and my secret sticking ingredient: hairspray. I spray it on my finger first, let it dry a bit, dab it on my lid and then apply the glitter with a silicone based applicator. I know Sephora sells them but I'm sure you could find them online for cheaper.
ReplyDeleteWell, you clearly have great taste in makeup AND music! <3
ReplyDeleteMy pleasure! I'm really eyeing that prize and keeping my fingers tightly crossed.
ReplyDeleteThank you! <3

ReplyDeleteIt's my favorite video of the past couple of years :D I like it because it was pretty much the music video of my 28 days of Black Beauty( http://www.socialitedreams.com/blog-posts/the-recap-all-28-days-of-black-beauty-makeup-looks.html), we had many of the same women covered! I thought it was so awesome and
ReplyDeletewell done. The Janet Jackson part was knocked out the park by the dancing and I loved the Josephine Baker quirkiness :)

ReplyDeleteEee! I instantly thought Pretty Girl Rock when I saw the featured image on my feed and I'm amazed to have gotten that right. <3 I like your version much better, btw.
ReplyDeleteCan you tell me what you used please! The glitter is absolutely amazing.. I would wear this look so much!
ReplyDeleteWOW! I'm so impressed you guessed that, well done!!
ReplyDeleteBase: NYX Jumbo Pencil in Black Bean
ReplyDeleteAll over lid: Annabelle Mineral Pigment Dust in Myth (Foiled using a Mixing Medium)
Then just dollar store craft glitter (eye safe) on my lid. Or you could use any bronze/gold glitter. This one would be nice: http://www.etsy.com/listing/59188461/cosmetic-glitter-bronze
To apply I spritz my finger with hairspray, dab on my lid then pat on the glitter with a flat brush or silicone glitter applicator.
I'm going to do a tutorial of this look I think, because it's SO easy. You should definitely try it!
