BIG POST ALERT! I have some REALLY exciting stuff for you guys today. Swatches, reviews, a look AND a tutorial. This post has got it ALL! But before we get to the goods, a little back story. In early December I was contacted by Makeupbee.com and asked if I would like to receive and review some Lime Crime products. So, naturally, when offered free things I take about .001 seconds to respond ... HELL YEAH! I've never owned any Lime Crime so I was eager to try out a new brand.

Lime Crime was generous enough to let me pick two eyeshadows, a lipstick, and a gloss from their brand new Carousel collection - and they thew in some of their eye shadow helper as well. After a long and anxious wait over the holidays I was ferociously excited when my stuff came in the mail this week. I tore into that package like a rabid beast and proceeded to cover my body in swatches of the stuff. Click the jump to see what I got.

THE REVIEW
DRAGON SCALES - Eyeshadow, $14.00

WHY: I chose this pigment mostly because of it's awesome name. Since reading Game of thrones I've become obsessed with dragons - so this shade called to me immediately.
WHAT: This pigment is a fiery explosion of metallic rust-colored pigment mixed with chilling green & teal flecks. It's literally looks like they took dragon scales and ground them up into dust.
WEAR: Even without foiling, this shadow is Intense with a capital I. No layering necessary. One swipe of the stuff and your skin is saturated, a little bit goes a long way.EMPRESS - Eyeshadow, $14.00

WHY: I chose this color because, I have an unhealthy obsession with purple eye shadows - hoarders style. I don't think it's possible to have too many purple pigments in your kit, and this one is a lovely addition.
WHAT: Empress is everything its name suggests, a royal and regal purple flecked with even more purple sparkle. Purple + purple = perfection. Science.
WEAR: Dry, this pigment has a light airy, fairy dust appearance to it. However if you're looking for a richer, deeper tone then all you need to do is apply over eye shadow helper, or foil with a mixing medium. Very versatile.MY BEAUTIFUL ROCKET - Lipstick, $16.00
WHY: Honestly, this wasn't my first choice. I really wanted to try the jet black Stiletto, but something about knowing spring is just around the corner made me want to try this bright sunshiney orange shade with some fun summery looks.
WHAT: This lipstick looks and feels like a Creamsicle, and even smells a little bit like one too. It glides on beautifully and the scent has the faintest hint of vanilla.
WEAR: Depending on the color of your lips, 2-3 coats ought to be plenty to transform your lips into a tangerine dream. It stayed put for about an hour before I needed to reapply.KALEIDOSCOPE - Lip Gloss, $17.00
WHY: Two words: Purple. Lipgloss. Enough said. But if you want more reason than that, I desperately wanted to do a glam goth look with this lush lip color. You can see what I came up with later on in the post.
WHAT: A thick, sticky deep dark purple gloss with lots of teal flecks mixed in to give it lots of glitter and dimension. Just like a kaleidoscope.
WEAR: The coverage is pretty incredible, but the cost of the incredible coverage is that this gloss is very thick. If you don't want to drown your lips in the product try layering Kaleidoscope over a coat of lipstick so you don't have to use as much.THE LOOK
So, of all the products I received, I was most excited for Kaleidoscope. I've been lusting over dark lipped looks lately and wanted desperately to try one for myself. This is a bit out of the ordinary for an eyeshadow loving gal like myself but there's something to be said for stepping out of your comfort zone once in a while. The look I came up with is a hybrid Glam Goth meets 50's Pin Up. I don't really know what to call it but I do know that I love how it turned out. Have a look for yourself and see Kaleidoscope in action.
To see how you can get this Gothic Pin-Up Look using Lime Crime's Kaleidoscope, here's a video tutorial for you guys:

ReplyDeleteI've read too many bad things about Lime Crime to ever spend my money on their products, but this look is amazing, Dragon Scales reminds me of a shadow I've just purchased from Illamasqua (Fervent Pigment I think it was). The effect on your lips has to be my favourite part about this look. :)
