Okay, today's post is not going to blow anyone out of the water creatively but I wanted to try a new technique that I saw in a video by makeup artist Jordan Liberty. He loves using a mixture of gloss and rose salve to give eyes a sexy shine for photoshoots and I thought why not try it out myself. This look is definitely a lot more fun to wear than it is to take pictures of and I'll admit it is a BITCH to take off but there's something so sexy about wearing a glossy eye. I think it's the fact that it's a bit messy and very daring, especially when you do it in bold, summery colors. Don't you agree?

Word of advice though, and I cannot stress this enough, if you try this look you MUST use a waterproof base and a waterproof gel liner or your hardwork will crease and smudge and run and you'll end up looking more swamp monster than supermodel. Okay!? You've been warned! Now, onto the pictures and tutorial!

I also filmed a tutorial for this look. It's quick, easy, uses cheap products and it's great for beginners. What more could you want in a video really!? I'm just being modest though ... enjoy and let me know if you decide to try this out for yourself.

OH MY GOD!!!!! MY HAIR CHALKING VIDEO WAS ON GOOD MORNING AMERICA, RIGHT UNDER KANDEE JOHNSTON!

Here's a screencap of the episode online! It's an atrocious freeze frame but holy hell, that's ME!!! They were talking about how hair chalking is a huge trend and then they showed a compilation of myself and three other beauty bloggers doing chalking videos. How absolutely random and cool is that!? Okay, maybe just cool for me but .... AHHH! WTF! So weirdly amazing! Someone on the GMA research staff is a Pigments and Palettes fan, and that person is my new best friend! <3

Hey everyone. So today's post is different than usual but I'm really proud of the work that I've included. This year was my second time doing makeup for the Awearness Fashion Performance put on by the Conestoga College Visual Merchandising class. This is the program that my boyfriend graduated from last year and I did the makeup for his model. This year my good friend Michelle was in the program and so she asked me to return and help out with the show. I was there for two days and I don't even want to know how many hours of makeup I must have done. One day it was 10am - 7pm with almost no breaks. I did about 7 different looks in total and unfortunately I don't have pictures for all of them, but I do have five to show off.

Each look was designed to match the model's outfit which was created by the students and meant to embody both an emotion and an element or principal of design.

I was definitely rushed and wished I could have spent a LOT more time on each of these but I did what I could in the time provided. I definitely don't know how the makeup artists at fashion week do it! I'll take a lazy afternoon of one makeup look over 7 looks in seven hours any day! Whew!! Sonja of The Beautiful Life of the Girl Next Door

Sonja is a very talented blogger and artist, but what I admire about her most is her infallibly positive and loving spirit. She's a young mother with a beautiful family and even though she just found out she has colon cancer at only age 26 she has never wavered once. She's as strong as ever, already calling herself a survivor. She's got such courage and grace in the face of something that would destroy most people and she's still creating stunning looks even going through chemo! Well guys, I have some good news and some bad news. I always say start with the bad news first so here goes. Unfortunately I'm going to have to cut my 'Spring into Color' series a bit short. I was really hoping to get through all ten looks but I have SO many upcoming looks for other collaborations/series/etc to get to that I just wont have time to do looks for each color. The good news is: Today's look combines two of the remaining three colors in the series so all in all I'm only missing one color. More good news, today's look comes with a tutorial and not one but two inspiration boards! All is well that ends well!

HELLO! I've missed you guys!! It's been so long since I've been able to blog and I really miss it. I do apologize for my absence as of late. I'm in my last month of school right now, just finished a four week teaching practicum, was volunteering at a charity fashion show and just started working two new jobs (PHEW!). I've been a busy busy bee lately and whenever that happens my makeup blog always seems to suffer. But I'm back (temporarily) with a look that might not be my best or craziest, but it's really special to me. Today I wore all pink makeup for Pink Day!

For those of you who don't know about the cause, today is Pink Day in Canadian Schools. It's all about raising awareness about bullying - especially homophobic bullying - in schools by wearing pink and talking about the importance of acceptance and tolerance. As someone with strong ties to the Queer community I feel especially passionate about promoting schools as a safe space for queer and questioning youth so today I visited a school that I recently taught at to visit the GSA and show my support for their cause. SO, long story short, I decided the best way to be festive was to don bright, beautiful pink makeup with lots of sparkle and shine! Isn't that right, Karen?

Couldn't have said it better myself!
